A native of Eugene Oregon, Neil has guided on such famed fly fishing rivers as the McKenzie and Deschutes in Oregon, and the Skagit, Yakima, and Skokomish in Washington. He has held casting clinics Sage Rods, G Loomis, and Lamson. He also tied custom steel head and Salmon flies commercially for several fly shops and guides in Western Oregon and Washington.
Neil moved to Nashville in 1993, where he developed and taught the accredited fly fishing course at Belmont University, and elective courses at Vanderbilt and Cumberland Universities.
Neil built his own McKenzie River drift boat designed by legendary Drift boat builder Don Hill, which he launched and christened the Lady Kay. In 2018.
Neil has a high dedication to developing therapeutic applications of fly casting, using the conscious breath casting (CBC) techniques he started developing in the early 90’s. He volunteers with Project Healing Waters, a program for military Veterans with disabilities, and is currently developing programs with institutions helping people recover from drug and alcohol addictions.
